Originally my plan for this post was to share the results from the site owners whom I contacted at the end of last week. I decided to contact 10 site owners and to ask them if they would be willing to respond to some questions about their role and their goals within the freebie industry. The 10 owners whom I selected to message were selected randomly; there were not any deciding factors as to why I choose the site owners whom I contacted. Out of these 10 owners I only received replies from four of the owners; two owners responded with detailed answers to my questions and two owners agreed to answer the questions, but have not done so at this point in time. The other 6 owners did not acknowledge me in any way.

My first reaction was that I should wait a little longer hoping that I would get more replies to my questions; my second thought was to set this idea aside for the time being and to write about the big changes starting to occur on some of the trading forums. In the end after some more thought, I realized that I had learned(really reinforced) an important lesson from my efforts to establish contact with the site owners. In addition, I also knew a little more about some of the owners and that really is what started all of this. So it occurred to me that there was a post to write after all.

While I did not expected all 10 owners to be willing to take the time to answer my questions, I have to say I did expect more than two owners to do so. Of course I am aware of the fact that site owners are very busy people; and I also know that some of the site owners take care of all aspects or almost all aspects of their business by themselves. In addition I am cognizant of the fact that in the scheme of things helping me with my blog is not a high priority- nor should it be. Truly, I didn’t have a problem with the fact that they didn’t feel like they had the time to spend answering my questions. But I have to say in all honesty a quick reply stating that they did not have the time or that they just weren’t interested would have been nice.

It also would have created a positive effect that would have enhanced my views of these sites. I certainly don’t view the sites who did not acknowledge my request in any manner as being sites who provide poor customer service; in fact, I have used these sites and they have always responded to my support questions. So I will certainly continue to use these sites and feel confident that I will receive good customer service from them.

As for the two sites who did initially answer me but didn’t follow through, I am appreciative of the fact that at least they took the time to reply back to me. I know that at least the one owner who actually answered two of my messages was very busy dealing with several issues concerning his sites. Most likely he should have said that he was too busy, but he is a genuinely nice person who I feel did intend to follow through. Illustrating that even an attempt to go above and beyond good service creates a positive outcome. I ended up adding several of each of these owners’ sites to my trade thread.

What happens when you strive to have not just good customer service, but outstanding customer service? Well at least for me what happened is this; the two site owners who did take the time to answer my questions have converted me into a very loyal supporter of their sites. This experience with the site owners confirmed what I consider to be a valuable component in creating great customer service. Going that extra mile makes you stand out above the rest. The importance and the power of having superior customer service can never be underestimated in my opinion. What do you think-how important is it to provide superior customer service?

By the way, while I don’t plan to list the 10 sites that I contacted, I would like to acknowledge the two site owners who not only answered my questions, but even offered to provide me with more information if I needed it. They were Gabriel of PrizeFast and Misty of OurLoot2Boot. I am grateful to both of them for the information they provided to me and I will be sharing that in a future post.
